Shown here is Mayor Bill Finch with scholars from the Charter Oak Challenge Scholarship program. The scholars were at their January reunion and represent Bridgeport high school students who have received a Charter Oak Scholarship. They represent students beginning their college career to scholars who are returning as mentors and graduate students. The Charter Oak Scholarship is awarded by the Charter Oak Challenge Foundation founded by Andy Boas. The Bridgeport Public Education Fund manages the program. Each Scholar receives a $10,000 scholarship, a laptop and is paired with an adult mentor.

Over 250 people from the Greater Bridgeport community volunteer with BPEF by being active participants on the Board of Directors, the Allocations Committee, Program Committees and by reading to first grade students on First Day.
